Carl Dupree, Phuture Sole's CEO, Passaic, NJ native, Carl Dupree is among the new "saviors" of NJ's soulful dance scene.  Like most of the "movers & shakers" in this genre, a teenaged Carl started his career as a DJ, "I had to play hip hop just to learn the basics of spinning".   Saving enough money to purchase a pair of Technic SL-B1 turntables, a mixer, an equalizer and a new amplifier, he recruited some local DJ friends, Joe and Marlon Ventura and formed a DJ group called "Jam Productions".   It was around this time that he caught notice of a DJ named Mark Mendoza, who had his own DJ crew.

A promotional organization decided to showcase a so-called "Battle of the DJs" event between the two rival posses.  Mark came prepared with mountains of DJ equipment and the latest "secret weapons" of musical armament.  Carl; on the other hand, to Mark's astonishment, arrived without his setup!  This kicked off a heated exchange of words.  Carl explained the situation to Mark, duly infuriated, calmed down afterwards, and as fate will have it, they became "the best of friends".

By the time he was 19, Carl began gigging around the NJ/NYC metropolitan area.  His first professional gig was at the infamous Peppermint Lounge (East Orange, NJ).  Later, Carl "paid dues" at such venues as Loop Lounge (Passaic, NJ), Euphoria Lounge (Bloomfield, NJ), Club Eclipse and After Hours (Newark, NJ),  Demerarašs, Nell's, Filter 14, Groove Jet, Limelight, Cheetah Club, Twirl and Twilo's (NYC) to name a few.   News of his distinctive DJing style reached several promoters in the UK,  leading to several guest slots at clubs such as: Honeycomb, The Pelican, 1741, Liquid Room, Berlin, Agenda, Poo Na Na and a current, quarterly residency at Taste.

DJ/Producer/Remixer, Dave Lalla, a friend of Carlšs, noticed the "treasure chest" of non-exposed, local talent proliferating in NJ. Of the few labels that specialize in "soulful" dance music, it seem as though they can't afford to spend the time and/or have the financial backing to devote to Artist Development. Also, many "recording artists-to-be" may not have access to dance producers to deliver a finish project to a label.  However, there are excellent dance songs being recorded, but not getting signed. "I heard 'People of the World' by Stacey Mallory feat. D.C. Washington it blew my mind!  I said to myself, how a record like this couldnšt get signed", hence Phuture Sole Recordings.

Created in the spring of 2003, Carl's aim with Phuture is to be at the helm of uptempo soul here in the Garden State, "At the moment, NJ has been injected with a new vitality, especially in the 'soulful' dance music arena.  We, at Phuture Sole want to tap into that spirit and with Mark Mendoza as Director of A&R, we will be forthright in our efforts to release a high quality, soul-based product".   Not discounting track-oriented or instrumental material, it is the gospel-tinged vocals, complex lyrics and arrangement, with strong emphasis on melody and a sophisticated jazz funk-based musicianship that is the foundation of Phuture Sole Recordings. Remember, without the past there is no Phuture.
